MRII Membership

Membership of the MRII is open to those who are employed (or seek to be employed) as Medical Representatives in Ireland. Click here for a list of roles not named as Medical Representative but carrying out the duties of Medical Representative that are also welcomed as members of the MRII.

There are three grades of membership:

  • Full Member: those who have passed the MRII examination, may use the letters MMRII after their name (annual subscription €150)
  • Student Member: those who have not yet passed the MRII examination. It is desirable that a student member should attempt the Institute's membership examination within two years of enrolment on the student register (annual subscription €100)
  • Associate Member: those who have passed the MRII examination but are not yet employed as a medical representative. They qualify for full membership once employed as a full time medical representative (annual subscription €150)

Both student and associate members may participate fully on the activities of the Institute but may not serve as a Council member and may not vote at elections.

Career Break
Members of The MRII, who leave the Pharmaceutical Industry for a career break, should notify the Institute of their intention. Such members will then be placed on an inactive list. If such an inactive member returns to the Pharmaceutical Industry and wishes to regain membership of the Institute, they can do so provided they fulfil the following conditions.

  1. They provide evidence that they had left the Pharmaceutical Industry for the period of absence corresponding to the arrears for which exemption is being sought.
  2. Provide evidence that they have returned to the Pharmaceutical Industry.
  3. Pay the membership fee due from the time of re-admission as well as any arrears outstanding from the period prior to the career break or in lieu of the payment of arrears they may alternatively opt to re-sit the MRII examination.
  4. Pass the MRII examination in the case of members who have not yet done this.

Maternity Leave
Members of the MRII, who are absent from work due to maternity leave, retain the benefits and obligations of membership. No payment holiday arises and membership fees are due as normal.

Retired Members
Members of the MRII, who were duly paid up prior to retirement, will be kept on the mailing list unless they request otherwise. Such persons may, by invitation of Council attend meetings and activities of The Institute but may not hold office or vote. No annual fee attaches to retired members. Such members will qualify for the same subsidised cost of attendance at the Annual Conference as applies to members. Should a retired member return to employment they should notify the Institute and will revert to full membership status.
