Mastering Chaos: Lessons from Sport Psychology

Dr Máire Treasa Ní Cheallaigh is a medical doctor, who studied graduate medicine in RCSI, while also maintaining a broadcasting career. Her pivot to healthcare was inspired by studying sport and exercise psychology and the realisation that wellness requires a deep understanding of what affects our physical and mental health. Ní Cheallaigh believes that we can learn from the psychology used by top athletes and apply it to our daily lives.

Mr Shane Ryan, IPHA Vice President & General Manager Ireland at Takeda.

Shane has been General Manager at Takeda for a number of years and was part of their startup team in Ireland. He has almost 25 years biopharmaceutical industry experience having worked with a number of companies in a variety of roles from customer facing through to strategic management. Shane currently serves on several industry boards. He holds third level qualifications in Chemistry, Marketing and Business and is the current Vice President of the Irish Pharmaceutical Healthcare Association(IPHA). Shane has a particular interest in equitable access to medicine, industry reputation and its societal impact. He also is an advocate for patient empowerment and digital health solutions.

Dr Johnny Walker is an Australian-trained, Dublin-based clinically active Interventional Radiologist and Nuclear Physician who, as a serial international pioneering digital health entrepreneur has been positively disrupting the way we care for people around the clock, around the world. Dr Walker will present some reflections on a 30 year journey and a vision for our future.

Dr Matthew Barrett, Consultant Cardiologist

Dr Matthew Barrett is a UCD graduate who completed subspecialty training in advanced cardiovascular imaging in Northwestern Memorial Hospital Chicago. He currently works as a consultant cardiologist with a focus on community care, eHealth and chronic disease management between St Vincent’s Healthcare Group and HSE Community Health Organisation 6. His special areas of interest include advanced cardiac imaging, heart failure, and use of eHealth in chronic disease management, and he has published on the use of biomarkers and home monitoring solutions in heart failure care.

“Heart-to-Heart: Exploring Cardiovascular Health”
Dr Barrett will share insights in relation to cardiovascular care and delivery for 2024/2025 and discuss how cardiovascular health is different for men and women. Followed by ‘in conversation with Louise Brannigan, MRII President’.

Moderator: Eoghan Tomás McDermott, The Communications Clinic

Eoghan Tomás McDermott is the Managing Director of The Communications Clinic. He is personal coach and advisor to a number of Chief Executives of large corporates, both indigenous and multi-national. Eoghan advises clients ranging from Cabinet Ministers to many of Ireland’s top sportspeople. Eoghan is a regular contributor on Irish media, including Today FM's The Last Word, Virgin Media's Ireland AM, as well as shows on Newstalk and RTE.
